The Proverbs 31 Wife

Half of our home group is pregnant--Read: All of our closest friends have babies. Naturally, that means I have had babies on the brain, which has me thinking about what kind of mom I want to be. I want to be intentional in pointing my children to Christ from the start. And that got me thinking about being intentional as a wife...which is something that I fail miserably at! I know I'm not currently the wife I want to be and the wife Stan deserves, and a lot of the time I make excuses like "I'm working full-time and going to grad school." While this is true, there are plenty of other things I can cut out...like Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, 90210, Criminal Minds, etc. So anyway, lately I've just been contemplating what kind of wife I want to be and how to be proactive in making the necessary changes.
The Woman Who Fears the LORD
10An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels.
11The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain.
12She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life.
13She seeks wool and flax,
and works with willing hands.
14She is like the ships of the merchant;
she brings her food from afar.
15She rises while it is yet night
and provides food for her household
and portions for her maidens.
16She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.
17She dresses herself with strength
and makes her arms strong.
18She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night.
19She puts her hands to the distaff,
and her hands hold the spindle.
20She opens her hand to the poor
and reaches out her hands to the needy.
21She is not afraid of snow for her household,
for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
22She makes bed coverings for herself;
her clothing is fine linen and purple.
23Her husband is known in the gates
when he sits among the elders of the land.
24She makes linen garments and sells them;
she delivers sashes to the merchant.
25 Strength and dignity are her clothing,
and she laughs at the time to come.
26She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.
27She looks well to the ways of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29"Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all."
30 Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
31Give her of the fruit of her hands,
and let her works praise her in the gates.

5 Things You May Not Know About ME!

Tagged! Okay, so there’s a blog tag game going around where you have to 'tag' five people and get them to tell 5 things others might not know about them.

Okay, so here it goes...

1. If you asked me before I married my best friend if I wanted to be a stay-at-home-mom I would have told you "Not in a MILLION years!" Oh my, how things have changed! That is one of my deepest desires as a wife currently. But don't get any ideas--we're not planning to make babies any time soon...

2. My husband is going to DBU for Biblical Studies...which means that he desires to go into ministry. This has me terrified depending on which direction God leads him. Lately it has been to youth ministry...which is the terrifying direction! God has definitely been working on my heart about that thanks to girls like this one...

3. I'm almost finished with my MS in Accounting and Information Management with a concentration in Taxation. However, lately I have wanted to open up a boutique selling handmade/refurbished things. Maybe 10 years from now...

4. Because I'm married to a very musically talented man, everyone asks me what I do (musically)...and I don't have a musical bone in my body! I can listen to music really well, but that's about it...

5. I've lived in Texas my whole life and I REALLY want to move away for a while! I want to live somewhere where we can do outdoorsy things. Colorado is currently #1 on the list ...We are going to Seattle in August and I'm really excited about that!

Okay, 5 random people that are now tagged are: (drum roll please...)

1. Kristine Munselle of Sacred Marriage
2. Brittany Evans of The Evans' Blog
3. Allison Pennington of The Pennington Pack
4. Erin Chaney of The Small Things That Make It Worthwhile
5. Jodi Streff of The Streff Family

RIP Keurig

You consistently brewed a delicious cup of coffee, with your vast collection of k-cups. We were sad to see you leave the world like this--Especially since we had to drop cash to replace you. Because let's be honest, we would be lost (and exhausted) without your caffeine-making abilities.

And by 'love' I mean 'loathe'

I just LOVE the US Post Office. I LOVE the long lines attributed with the USPS. I LOVE that they only have extemely large or extremely small boxes available during the busiest time of the year.

You know what I LOVE even more? I just LOVE that after I wait in line for thirty minutes and paid out the bum for an 'oversized' box that was only half full, the clerk has the audacity to offer a special APO box that was in the far, unlit back corner for a lower price....and wait in the line that is now twice as long. No thank you!

It only took me 4 hours to make this...

Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little bit...but that's what it felt like. Here is my first sewing project by myself! It is a pouch for a heat therapy pack that you stick in the microwave (which I have yet to make). I still need to put the velcro on but that requires me driving 20 minutes to a fabric store because West Plano doesn't have any of those!

And a close-up of the decorative end:

And here is my very first "project"--Our tree skirt. I use the term lightly, because I basically just sewed a zigzag stitch around the perimeter of a 3-yard piece of fabric! But here it is...

And here is my 'vintage' sewing machine my mom gave me! So grateful to have it! I'm enjoying it and learning A LOT on it. Thanks MOM!

All I want for Christmas is...

a sewing and embroidery combo machine!

Well, maybe I should restate that...All I want for Christmas since my husband has already purchased--and presented to me--Guitar Hero World Tour band edition...

...is a sewing and embroidery combo machine. I don't want anything fancy, after all I just had my first sewing lesson last week (more on that later tonight). So here is the machine I have my eye on.
Now accepting donations...or Wal*Mart gift cards.

Black Friday?

Waking up before the sun comes up...

Fighting other people for that perfect gift...

Standing in RIDICULOUSLY long lines...

NO THANK YOU!

I have to admit, it would have been nice to get seasons 1 & 2 of Gossip Girl for $12....but I would rather be asleep next to my husband in my warm, comfy bed than save a few bucks. So, that is just what I did! Stan and I slept in (we even got our pups to sleep in as well!) and it was GLORIOUS. Stan made some cinnamon rolls in the morning and we put up our Christmas tree and decorated the new place! I have to say the day after Thanksgiving is one of my favorites.

On another Christmas note, I made our wreath this year and I LOVE IT! Be Jealous...
